Benton

Benton has a population of c. 23 000. It is locaded in Saline county, 416 feet above sea level.
The first non-native to come to the area that today is Saline county was William L. Lockhart who settled with his family four miles south of today's benton in 1815. In 1831 the first post office was established. The founding of the town of Benton was in 1833 and when Saline county was established in 1835, Benton was chosen to be the county seat. The first court house and the first jail were built in 1838. The first Library to open in Benton was Saline County Library. It was the Benton Junior Fortnightly Club, a women’s civic club, that hade taken on the projekt of opening a library.

  • to act as the official representative of Arkansas cities and towns before the state and federal governments;
