Union CountyCreated in 1829 from land in Clark and Hempstead counties, Union county is located in the southwest corner of Arkansas and is the largest county in the state. The county seat was originally located at Camden before moving to El Dorado in the 1840s. Union County is best known for oil boom of the 1920s, which made it a wealthy area. Hutting, El Dorado, Mount Holly, Strong, Junction City, Smackover and Norphlet are a few of its communities. As of the 2000 census, Union County had a population of 45,629 residents.
